Nestled in a beautiful and tranquil setting just a stone’s throw from Farlam Hall, Lanercost Priory is a fascinating visit with a storied, often troubled history. An incredibly well-preserved 12th century monastery, it suffered frequent attacks during the long Anglo-Scottish wars, including once by Robert Bruce in person. Edward I also rested here for five months, shortly before his death on his final campaign into Scotland.
Aside from the fascinating ruins and tombs, there is a delightful gift shop and tea room, serving freshly prepared food to order using local produce.
Farlam Hall Country House Hotel, a place of relaxation and comfort set in charming ornate grounds in the beautiful Cumbrian countryside.
