You’ll find the mixed landscape of hills, mountains and moorland offers more sedate rambles for beginners and families peppered with historic sights, breath-taking scenery and picturesque villages to mark the passing miles.

Close by, there’s the end of the Northern Pennines, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that offers quiet, unspoiled countryside for contemplative strolls.

Three miles to the north of Farlam, join the popular Hadrian’s Wall Path to enjoy a little history as you take in the awe-inspiring scenery. Check off some of the more impressive sections of the wall on the Sycamore Gap, Steel Rigg, Crag Lough circular route. Or, follow in the footsteps of the Romans and explore the historic sights of Birdoswald and Housesteads.

As if all that weren’t quite enough, the Lake District World Heritage Site is only hour’s drive away, making a day trip to one of the world’s most celebrated national parks perfectly viable.
